Jeep Commander Brake Light Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Brake Light Switch on Jeep Commander?
    A:
Before you install the brake lamp switch, disconnect the negative cable from the battery, isolate it and allow the system two minutes to discharge. Move the brake lamp switch plunger all the way in, then insert the wire harness connector into the switch. Keep pressing on the brake pedal and guide the locking collar so that its tabs overlap the keyed hole in the bracket. Once the holes meet, insert the tab into the hole until the switch sits right against the bracket. Turn the switch housing counterclockwise about 270 degrees to press the tabs against the mounting bracket, making sure the brakes aren't beyond a pull of 9 kilograms (20 pounds). Press the brake pedal down and release it, then lightly raise it up to its proper place so the plunger moves with a ratcheting noise. At the end, put on the steering column opening cover and fasten the battery negative cable into place.
