Jeep Commander Horn Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Horn Alarm on Jeep Commander?
    A:
Before starting the service or repair of the alarm horn, first shut off the battery's negative cable and lift and support the car. Remove the horn(s) and mounting bracket from the right front section of the outboard fender, steering column side. Inside the hollow at the back of the right end of the front frame crossmember, you will find the alarm siren module to the outboard side of the right frame rail. Remove the headlamp and dash wire harness connector from the connector receptacle on the top of the siren and then unscrew the screw that holds the mounting bracket to the right part of the front crossmember. First, put the alarm siren module and bracket unit in the space on the hollow side of the right end of the front crossmember, with the inside facing the right frame rail. After that, set the bolts and install the bracket to hold the siren, tighten them to 14 N.m (10 ft. lbs.). Connected the headlamp wire and the dash wire at its receptacle in the top of the siren. Also, connected the horns and bracket to the outboard side of the right front rail. A new alarm siren module must be configured in the intrusion module before the VTSS system will work properly, using a diagnostic scan tool for the configuration of siren settings. Disconnect the siren and bracket all in one and reach inside the opening behind the right front crossmember to take the screw out of the back of the siren bracket. Place the alarm siren module so the threaded insert lines up with the mounting hole on the bracket, screw the bracket into the siren so the tightening torque is 14 N.m (10 ft. lbs.) and set the siren and assembled bracket into the space on the back of the right portion of the front frame crossmember outside the right frame rail.
  • Q: How to Install and Configure the Horn for the Theft Security System (VTSS) on Jeep Commander?
    A:
The alarm siren module should be placed against the mounting bracket where the front frame crossmember joins the right end, just beyond the right frame rail. Make sure screw 3 is fastened into position to attach the siren mounting bracket to the end of the front crossmember, then tighten it to 14 Nm (10 ft. lbs.). Again, join the headlamp and dash wire harness connector to the siren receptacle at the top. Put back the horn(s) and bracket onto the right front frame rail, located on the outside by the outboard end. Remove the vehicle to the lowest position and link the battery negative cable again. A diagnostic scan tool is needed to set the siren module in the intrusion module if the alarm siren has been replaced with a new unit in the Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS).
