Jeep Commander Brake Shoe Set Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair a Brake Shoe Set on Jeep Commander?
    A:
To access brake shoes for labour, first remove rear Wheel and Tyre assembly after uplifting vehicle. Next, with support and not hanging by its brake hose, pull out the 2 caliper bolts and remove the caliper. Take out the plastic access plug that is located on the rear brake support plate. If necessary, retract the parking brake shoes by placing the brake adjuster tool at the top of the star wheel and rotating. Next, remove the rotor from the axle hub flange and (do) take off the four axle flange nuts. Subsequently, detach the axle shaft from the rear differential. Use needle nose pliers to remove the return spring from the shoe, and then do the adjuster. Employ brake pliers to detach the second shoe from the shoe return spring. Remove the shoe hold-down clips and the pins. The pins are secured within clip notches. Push the ends of the clips together and slide them until the head of the pin is clear of the notch. Then remove the clip and pin. Finally, disconnect the parking brake actuator lever shoes, and remove the shoes.
