Jeep Commander Fuse Box Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Fuse Box on Jeep Commander?
    A:
Before installing the Junction Box (JB), change all fuses, circuit breakers and relays from the non-functioning JB into the new JB's matching cavities. Along the JB mounting bracket, put the JB into place and ensure the bottom retaining tabs are locked in the bracket's lower slots and the top sits in the upper bracket slots with the snap clips. Clamp the JB tightly with your hands and push it into the bracket to connect the snap clips securing the top part. Join the JB to the mounting bracket by securely tightening the four screws with a torque of 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). After that, match the top side wire harness connector to the receiver on the JB and do the same with the bottom side wire harness. Secure the steering column opening cover by putting in the screw, then push the top of the panel in to line up the retaining clips. Then, insert the battery negative cable back into its connector.
  • Q: How to Service a Fuse Box on Jeep Commander?
    A:
Before servicing the fuse box, put the car in neutral, remove the battery negative cable and let the air bag capacitor empty out for two minutes. First, hold the Steering Column Cover at the top and pull it out to break open the retaining clips, then remove the screw at the bottom. Unhook the cable from the two lower Junction Block (JB) connectors and then go behind the JB to pull out the top connector. Remove the screws holding the Junction block, then press and pull the two clips up from the top, pushing the JB slightly so the lower tabs pop out and can be pulled away. Push down the JB out of the bottom opening where the instrument panel attaches. Handle the fuses and circuit breakers carefully as you shift them to the other JB, checking the diagrams so that they are installed in the correct section. Pull the JB into the bracket's mount, making sure the bottom's retaining tabs fit snugly into the slots and the top snap clips pass evenly into the top mounting slots. Tightly hold the JB and slip it into the bracket so the snap clips connect, then use the included screws to secure it to the bracket, each to 2 N.m (20 in. lbs.). Connect the top wires from the harness to JB, the bottom harness wires to the JB, hold the opening cover in place by tightening the screw with a screwdriver, push the top into the car to clip in the retaining holdings and then link the negative Battery Cable back.
