Jeep Commander Relay Block Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install the Relay Block on Jeep Commander?
    A:
Transfer all fuses, breakers and relays from the inoperative Relay Block to the correct cavities on the new unit before installing the Relay Block. Secure the Relay Block in the lower slot of the Relay Block mounting bracket with the lower retaining tabs matching the slots. At the top, place the Relay Block so that the snaps from the Relay Block are inside the mounting slots in the bracket. Use both of your hands to hold the Relay Block and then press it into the bracket to lock in the gloved half of the Relay Block with the top snap clips. Install and tighten the four screws on the Relay Block to the mounting bracket so they reach a setting of 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Reattach the top side wire harness cable to its connector receptacle and afterward do the same thing for the bottom harness cables. Afterward, set the cover onto the steering column opening, fasten it using the screw, push the top of the panel inward to connect the top retaining clips and finish by reconnecting the battery negative cable.
  • Q: How to Remove the Relay Block on Jeep Commander?
    A:
First, cut the air bag system off by removing and isolating the negative Battery Cable. After two minutes, the air bag system capacitor will be discharged. Remove the cover for the steering column opening by pushing outward on the top latch and taking out the screw at the base. After that, detach the two bottom Junction Blocks and then work from behind to unlink the top one. Disable the two clips that hold the Junction Block to the bracket from above and remove the screws connecting the Junction Block to the bracket. With the sliding piece on top, push it out of the bracket and pull it up so the retaining tabs release. Following that, release the Junction Block so it falls down through the opening at the bottom of the instrument panel.
