Begin with unplugging and isolating the battery negative cable, then take out the serpentine
Drive Belt so you can reach the A/C compressor clutch. After that, take out the bolt that holds the compressor clutch to the compressor shaft, being sure to secure the clutch with a band-type oil filter wrench while doing so. Clutch the plate with a plastic mallet to separate it from the splines on the shaft and after that, remove the clutch plate and shim(s). Be careful not to pry the clutch plate assembly apart from the pulley to stop damage. Insert snap ring pliers (C-4574) and remove the external snap ring on the compressor clutch pulley. Slide the pulley assembly off the compressor front housing after removal. Withdraw the screw and retainer from the clutch coil lead wire harness on the compressor front housing, then take off the outer snap ring with your retainer pliers and slide the clutch coil away. In order to install, place the dowel pin on the back of the clutch field coil into the hole on the compressor front housing, then press the field coil into position. Install the clutch coil wire harness and tighten the clip, using the correct retaining screw. Fit the clutch field coil and snap ring around the armature with snap ring pliers, so the curved part of the snap ring faces the exterior and both eyelets are by the pin on the compressor side. Press down on the snap ring to make sure it is well seated in the groove to prevent the clutch from failing. Attach the pulley assembly onto the compressor and if fitted on a rough friction surface, wedge in a block of wood and tap gently, making sure you avoid damaging the pulley area. On the bevel side, insert and secure the pulley assembly retaining snap ring with snap ring pliers so it is correctly placed in the groove. When you are using the old clutch plate and pulley, place the old shim(s) underneath; otherwise, add shim(s) that total the same thickness as the old one(s). Attach the clutch plate assembly to the shaft and then use feeler gauges to check that the air gap between the clutch plate and the pulley face is between 0.35 and 0.65 millimeter (0.014 and 0.026 inch). Shim one side of the cylinder until you get the right air gap. At the end, place the compressor shaft bolt, tighten to 13 Nm (115 in. lbs.), check the air gap in several places after tightening and lastly, spin the pulley to finish the installation after checking the air gap one more time.
