The Throttle Position Sensor is an important component especially in the Jeep Liberty vehicles to regulate the flow of the air-fuel mixture for combustion. Thus monitoring the throttle position TPS sends signals to fuel injection system, by which the engine control unit can regulate the fuel delivery according to power demand. This feedback loop happens many times per second thus allowing for proper acceleration and deceleration. Jeep Liberty models employ modern contactless TPS solutions including Hall effect and magnetoresistive sensors while the old-fashioned potentiometric sensors are based on a direct contact. The non-contact design of the sensor offers a higher level of reliability and efficiency for instance in the electronic throttle control systems. Further, there are other accelerator pedal sensors like the wide open throttle (WOT) sensors that together with the TPS helps to improve the engine performance. Altogether, Throttle Position Sensor is an important component that helps in maintaining the performance and fuel consumption of Jeep Liberty vehicles.

Jeep Liberty Throttle Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install a Throttle Position Sensor on 2.4L and 3.7L Engines on Jeep Liberty?
    A:
The TPS is installed on the Throttle Body, so begin by disconnecting the electrical connector, grab the TPS mounting screws, take them out and pull the TPS out. Make sure the throttle body, with its throttle shaft facing the TPS, rotates a little when you push on the sensor; if it does not, put the TPS on the other side with the throttle shaft so the sensor is under slight tension when it rotates. Attach the TPS with the retaining screws and tighten them to 7 N-m (60 in. lbs.) torque, next, plug in the TPS electrical connector. Before starting the engine, pull the throttle manually and watch for binding in the TPS and install the air cleaner tube on the throttle body after that.
