Lift the rear of the vehicle, support it and then remove the
Axle Shaft for best access to the rear axle bearings and seals. Take out the
Axle Shaft Seal from the axle tube by hooking it out with a small pry bar. You can get rid of both the seal and the bearing together with one tool. After that, pull out the axle shaft bearing using Bearing Removal Tool Set 6310 and Adapter Foot 6310-9. After cleaning the area, remove all the sealer and burr spots from the axle tube bore before installing anything new. Secure the axle shaft bearing with Handle C-4171 and Installer C-4198, so that the part number is turned towards the installer. Afterward, put in a new axle seal with the same installer and handle, making sure the seal reaches the proper depth when the tool makes contact with the axle tube. Always put lubricant on the lip of the seal before you fit in the axle shaft. Once the axle shaft is in place, check the gear lubricant and fill it and after that, put on the wheel and tire assembly. After that, take out the support and let the vehicle down.
