Jeep Liberty Windshield Washer Fluid Reservoir Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain a Windshield Washer Fluid Reservoir on Jeep Liberty?
    A:
Before you begin to service the washer reservoir, first remove and separate the negative cable from the battery and then drain the washer fluid into a clean dish for you to use again. Move the steering wheel as far to the right as you can and lift the air cleaner housing off the top of the right front fender wheel house. Take out the blind rivet that holds the washer reservoir filler neck support bracket to the upper radiator crossmember and lift the vehicle. Simply push in the fasteners holding the splash shield under the front Wheelhouse to the fender liner and front panel, then pull it down to expose the washer reservoir. Unlatch the headlamp and dash wire harness connector against the top of the motor housing and the connector for the washer fluid level switch. Pull the washer hoses away from the pump/motor unit and then separate the rear washer hose from the washer reservoir trough. Take out the two screws on the right front frame rail, then easily disconnect the hook tab at the back of the reservoir from the slot in the frame rail. Open the reservoir as low as needed so the filler neck comes out of the right front fender wheel house panel extension, then remove the washer reservoir. When installing, place the washer reservoir inside the right front fender wheel house, feed the filler neck through the open hole and raise it until the tab in the reservoir links with the slot in the frame. Tighten the two screws that hold the reservoir to the frame rail to 7 N.m (65 in. lbs.), then join the rear washer hose to the washer reservoir so that the hoses are correctly routed. Connect the front washer hose to the washer pump/motor outlet nipple meant for it, along with the rear one to its outlet. Connect the headlamp and dash wire harness again for the washer fluid level switch and the connector for the washer pump/motor. Replace the front wheelhouse splash shield, bring the vehicle down and insert a blind rivet to secure the washer reservoir filler neck support bracket to the upper radiator crossmember. Reattach the air cleaner housing and attach the battery negative cable back before you add the siphoned washer fluid to the reservoir.
  • Q: How to Service a Windshield Washer Fluid Reservoir on Jeep Liberty?
    A:
Before you can service the reservoir, first unplug the negative cable from the battery then pour the fluid in the reservoir into a container. Steer the car to the max right, then undo the six screws holding the air cleaner housing to the right front fender wheel house and remove it. Unfasten the bracket securing the washer reservoir filler neck support using the blind rivet, take out the support from the frame and support the vehicle before unhitching the forward end of the front wheelhouse splash shield plasma fasteners. Move the forward side of the splash shield to break the seal and see the washer reservoir. Take out the harness attachments for the headlamp and dash, as well as the headlamp and dash wiring from the washer pump/motor unit receptacle on top of the motor housing and also unplug the harness connector of the washer fluid level switch. After that, remove the washer hoses from the pump/motor unit nipples, pull out the rear hose from the trough and remove the screws at the reservoir's connection to the right front frame rail. Separate the hook tab at the back of the reservoir from its slot in the frame rail, pull down the reservoir enough to remove the filler neck and slip the reservoir out of its hole in the right front fender wheel house panel extension. Set the washer reservoir into the right front fender wheel house, send the filler neck through the clearance opening and raise the reservoir so its hook tab is aligned with the slot on the frame rail. Secure the two screws to 7 N.m (65 in.lbs.), attach the rear washer hose to the trough or hole enclosure and join the front and back washer hoses to their fitted nipples. Reattach the headlamp and dash wire harness to the connector for the washer fluid level switch and the washer pump/motor. Place the forward part of the splash shield in the correct spot, attach the plastic fasteners, lower the vehicle and nail the new blind rivet to the washer reservoir filler neck support bracket. Replace the housing of the air filter, plug the battery back in and refill the washer fluid by adding the siphoned fluid.
