The very first step is to cut off the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) by removing and isolating the battery negative cable for two minutes to let the system's capacitor discharge. Unless the
Steering Wheel is fitted, the plastic locking pin from the replacement Clock Spring should not be removed; otherwise, you'll have to center the Clock Spring again. Get the steering wheel straight and lock it up before starting the vehicle. During a new Clock Spring installation, connect the multifunction switch jumper harness from the old Clock Spring or attach one from a new one. Slide the Clock Spring over the upper shaft at the steering column and make sure all the wire harness connectors are back in place on the Clock Spring's case. With the Clock Spring above the steering column lock, fix it to the housing and tighten it with three screws in the sequences of lower right, upper left and upper right, until there is 3 Nm (27 in. lbs.) applied to avoid ticking noises during steering wheel operation. Hold the multifunction switches upright on the Clock Spring, then fit the upper and lower shrouds to the column. Lift the steering column all the way and lock it and then reattach the steering wheel. After that, get rid of the plastic locking pin from the Clock Spring rotor and link the battery negative voltage back up.
