While setting the piston rings, make sure the mark on the upper and intermediate rings points in the same direction as the motor's top. You should start with the oil ring expander, after which you should install the upper and lower oil ring side rails. For the side rail of the lower engine part, place its one end inside the space between the piston ring groove and the oil ring expander, hold it securely and press down until the side rail reaches its place, without using the piston ring expander. Markings for compression rings are Y1 and Y2 which appear upward on each ring. The following step is to fit the No. 2 piston ring and then place the No. 1 piston ring. Make sure the oil ring expander gap is at least 45° from the side rails and that it is not in the same location as the thrust direction of the piston pin, as spacing the oil ring gaps apart is essential.
