Q: How Can the Relay Block Be Replaced and Secured in Its Mounting Location on Jeep Commander?
A:
As you swap the Junction Block (JB) with a replacement unit, place all fuses, circuit breakers and relays from the old JB into the collectors and relays sections of the new model. Ensure that the JB is flush on the mounting bracket, putting the lower two tabs into the openings in the bottom of the bracket. Next, put the snap clips at the top of the JB into the top mounting slots in the bracket and push the JB down so that the snap clips inside the bracket grip the JB at the top. Attach the JB to the hole on the bracket (4 screws) and ensure it is tightened at 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Routes the top side wire harness connector back to the connector receptacle on the JB, after which you route both bottom side connectors back to the same receptacles. First, add the opening cover to the steering column, screw it in and push the panel's top inward to treat the clips before reconnecting the negative cable to the battery.
Q: How to Service the Relay Block on Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A:
To service the relay block, turn off the air bag system by disconnecting and isolating the battery negative cable and wait two minutes after that to allow the system capacitor to lose its charge so you don't have an accidental deployment. Pull outward on the upper edge of the opening cover to free it from the clips and then take out the screw at the bottom. Beneath the double piezo disk, sever both JB connectors on the bottom side of the device and then reach behind to cut the JB connector at the upper side. Untighten the screws holding the JB to the mounting bracket and push the top part of the JB out and up, while pulling on the lower panel to remove it. Bring the JB out of the opening that is below the instrument panel. When switching the JB, move all the fuses, circuit breakers and relays to their correct home in the new JB, following the wiring diagram to get the proper placement. On the JB mounting bracket, fit the JB so that the two tabs line up with the bracket slots and the snap clips meet their mounting slots too. Take the JB and firmly push it into the bracket to make the snap clips engage and then insert the four screws to secure it, but tighten them only to 2.2 N-m or 20 in. lbs. Link the wire harness connectors that are on top and bottom to the JB. Install the steering column opening cover by using the screw and fitting the top of the opening into the retaining clips and lastly link the negative side of the battery cable.
