Jeep Timing Belt Tensioner is another component that maintains the tightening of the timing belt of the engine to ensure that the valves and pistons remain in sync. Jeep has been living in the world of dirty roads and straight highways, a mix of the 1945 civilian icon with the recent technology such as Selec-Terrain drive modes, digital dashboards, voice control, over-the-air upgrades, and driver aids that make the dirt road look as inviting as the road in town as the faithful community shares their mud, mountain, and roof-off sunset stories. Jeep has applied a philosophy of building based on the beliefs in rugged frame, high ground clearance, affordable prices, and easy-to-use switches which make weekend adventurers and daily commuters alike trust the badge when the weather turns bad or when curiosity wants to take a shortcut off-road and it is that trust which has made the badge known to everyone in the world even without the need to use puffed-up ad words. Jeep owners rely on a Timing Belt Tensioner, which clings with consistent spring pressure when the hood pops, and this Timing Belt Tensioner prevents the belt flutter under revs, jumps of the tooth during sudden throttle lifts, and ensures that cam and crank events stay in sync so power is delivered clean and emissions are maintained when dusty deserts or icy backroads. Each replacement Timing Belt Tensioner simply falls into a Jeep engine cavity, it uses self-lubricating pivots to shake off grit, it uses heat-rated bearings on long runs, and the Timing Belt Tensioner accommodates factory belt widths giving its owner no need to make custom shims, a smoother idle, and can easily go past 100,000 miles before the next swap is necessary.

Jeep Timing Belt Tensioner Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Timing Belt Tensioner on Jeep Wrangler?
    A:
Before you service or repair the timing belt tensioner and pulley, take out the timing belt and timing belt idler pulley. Secure Special Tool 6847 on the camshaft sprocket as you remove the bolt and then remove both cam sprockets. After that, loosen and take off the bolts that keep the rear timing belt cover in place, then remove the cover itself from the engine. At this point, remove the lower bolt that holds the timing belt tensioner assembly to the engine and then take out the whole assembly. With installation, put the timing belt tensioner assembly in place along with the engine and put in the lower mounting bolt without tightening it at first. First, set one of the engine bracket mounting bolts (M10) 5 to 7 turns into the tensioner assembly's upper location. Turn the bolt on the lower end of the tensioner to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) and then take out the upper bolt used to line it up. After the timing belt cover, install the rear side of the timing belt idler pulley, then torque its mounting bolt to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). To finish, use Special Tool 6847 to secure the sprockets as you torque the bolts to 101 Nm (75 ft. lbs.). The timing belt should then be installed.
