Q: How to Service and Repair a Transmission Mount on Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A:
The first step to fixing the transmission mount is to take out the engine bending braces which help support the powertrain and lower NVH on the car, with the same process used on the left and right sides of the car, although only the right is shown in the illustration. Raise and secure the vehicle first and afterward, remove the bolt holding the exhaust hanger bracket. After that, take away the locknut and the transmission bending brace bar, then the engine-to-bending brace retaining bolt, bending brace bar and cross bar. Tighten the clamps or screws that keep the bends together only once the bending braces are all correctly placed. Put the cross brace between the engine-to-transmission brace and then install its retaining bolt. Set the transmission bending brace onto the through brace and fix it in place with a new locknut. Secure the exhaust hanger and transmission brace by screwing the retaining bolt into it. Afterward, fasten the engine-to-transmission brace retaining bolt to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.), the transmission brace retaining bolts to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) and finally, tighten the transmission brace retaining lock nuts to 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.).
Q: How to Service a Transmission Mount on Jeep Liberty?
A:
Before servicing the transmission mount, take off the negative cable from the battery and raise the car to support the transmission. Unscrew the nuts holding the support cushion to the crossmember and pull the crossmember out. After that, remove the support cushion nuts, the cushion and the bracket bolts to free the bracket from the transmission. During installation, place the driver end plate onto the transmission and use bolts tightened to 46 Nm (34 ft. lbs.) torque. After that, fit the support cushion to the support bracket and screw in the nuts so the torque is 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.). Put the crossmember over the support cushion studs, fix the stud nuts in place and tighten these nuts to 22 Nm (192 in. lbs.). After that, install your crossmember-to-sill bolts snugly at 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) and then remove the transmission support, lower the vehicle and reattach the negative cable.
