When repairing or servicing the parking brake cable for drum brakes, lift the vehicle up and then lose the equalizer nuts. First, remove the cable from the equalizer and take it out of the car and next remove the bracket screwing into the upper suspension arm. Take out the rear wheel and
Brake Drum, together with the brake shoe. At the same time, disconnect the brake cable from the lever of the brake shoe. Force the cable retainer down using a worm drive hose clamp and disconnect the cable from the backing plate. Stick the cable into the slot of the seat at the back of the plate and ensure the retainer is in place. Push the cable through the guide and let it out on the side of the brake, then put back the brake shoe. Place the gauge on the brake shoe and the drum, adjust the brake shoes to the drum and mount the brake drum and wheel again. Attach the cable/bracket to the upper suspension arm, slip the cable into the equalizer and add the equalizer nuts. Lastly, set the system parking brakes.
