2000 Dodge Durango Oil Pan Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix an Oil Pan on 2000 Dodge Durango?
A: The first thing to do when working on the oil pan is to remove the negative battery lead and pull out the oil dipstick. Elevate your car and drain out the engine oil. Once that's done, remove the front axle assembly and the two engine mount support brackets, then the transmission inspection cover and finally the oil pan and gasket. Cut the heads off of four 1 1/2 x 5/16 inch bolts, then create a slot in the top so they are easy to insert during alignment. After the dowels are in the cylinder block, place a small amount of Mopar Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant or something equivalent, in the corner of the cap and the block to keep them together. Lay the gasket over the dowels and onto the block, put the oil pan over the dowels and onto the gasket and then tighten the oil pan bolts to 24 Nm/215 in. lbs. Remove the dowels and tighten the remaining oil pan bolts to 24 Nm (215 in. lbs.). Insert the drain plug and tighten it to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.) torque; replace the transmission inspection cover, engine mount support brackets and insulators and install the front axle assembly. Raise the car, link the distributor to the engine, add the dipstick, reattach the negative wire on the battery and add enough oil to the crankcase.
