  • Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Power Steering Pump on 2000 Dodge Durango?
    A: The first thing to do when servicing or repairing the power steering pump is to delete the serpentine drive belt. Hold the hose connecting the pump to the reservoir, then disconnect them and cap the hose fittings. Remove the battery ground cable and the bolts holding the bracket before getting rid of the pump assembly. First, take out the pump pulley, then access the pump attaching screws, next remove the bolts holding the bracket and finally take out the bracket. To install the bracket, fix it to the pump and tighten the bolts to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.), then install the pump pulley. Put the pump assembly on the engine block and use bolts that are torqued to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). Reconnect the battery ground wire and fix the nut at 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). After that, link the fluid hoses to the pump. Put in the serpentine drive belt, place enough power steering fluid in the reservoir and start the power steering pump for the first time.
