2001 Dodge Neon Power Steering Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Hose for Pressure Hose on 2001 Dodge Neon?
A: Empty the power steering reservoir and hoist up the vehicle to access the hose in the power steering system. Using one hand to back out the tube nut, pull the power steering fluid pressure hose out of the gear and off the routing clips on the other side with the other hand. Decrease vehicle height and unfasten the bolt for the hose routing clip on the right engine mount. Finally, remove the power steering fluid pressure hose. Now, come out of the tube nut that holds the hose to the pump and take the hose out of the pump, making sure to bring it out of the car's engine area. Bring the power steering pressure hose into the car's engine compartment through the top, ensure the pump end is set up under the pump and the tubing along the engine's right side goes behind the back of the engine, sending the other (Gear) end to the power steering gear. Make sure the open hose end and the power steering pump opening are free from debris, fit a new O-ring in place and smear power steering fluid on both sides. Secure the hose to the bottom fitting of the power steering pump, tighten the tube nut to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs. ). Attach the hose to the routing clip and fit the clip to the engine mount on the right; align the mount bolts and tighten to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.). When the vehicle is once more up in the air, move the power steering lines away from the exhaust assembly to save them from damage. Check both the open hose end and the power steering gear port for cleanliness, set in a new O-ring and lubricate it. Fasten the hose to the power steering gear port, starting the threading, but not yet tightening. Place the hose in the routing clips and snap them shut, then tighten the nut fastening it to the gear to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.). Slowly lower the vehicle and start the Power Steering Pump Initial Operation procedure. After that, check for leaks at all connections on the hoses.
