2000 Dodge Ram 3500 Lash Adjuster Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Lash Adjuster on 2000 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Before servicing or fixing the lifter/lash adjuster, take off the air cleaner, cylinder head cover, rocker assembly and push rods and always identify the push rods during their removal. Then, get rid of the intake manifold, yoke retainer and aligning yokes for the next section. Take the Hydraulic Tappet Remover/Installer tool and set it in the tappet head, then twist it to remove the tappet from the bore and pay attention to each tappet since all are lifted. Whenever you spot scoring, scuffing or sticking in a tappet or bore inside the cylinder, increase the size of the bore and change the tappet to a larger than standard part. Among the first steps, put a thin lubricant on the tappets and set them into their original places, making sure the hole that feeds oil into the tappet is on top. Add the yokes underneath the manifold, with the Arrow aligned with the camshaft. Then, place the yoke retainer and fix both with bolts to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.) torque. Now, fit the rocker arm, cylinder head cover and distributor, start the engine, saw the timing, then install the accessories again. The engine should not run at fast idle until all the hydraulic tappets have been filled with oil and have become silent, to keep the valve mechanism safe.
