2000 Jeep Cherokee Speed Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Locate, Remove, and Install a Speed Sensor on 2000 Jeep Cherokee?
A: The Vehicle Speed Sensor is fitted to the side of the transmission's extension housing, above the left-side speedometer pinion gear adapter. The best way to remove the sensor is to raise and prop up the vehicle first. From the back, press the slide tab to separate the connector from the sensor and now push the secondary release lock on the side and pull the connector off. After that, unscrew the sensor mounting bolt and carefully pull the sensor straight out from the speedometer pinion gear adapter, making sure not to take the gear adapter off the transmission. Start by cleaning the inside of the speedometer pinion gear adapter before putting in the sensor. Place the sensor into the adapter and make sure it is secure by tightening the mounting bolt. Screw the sensor mounting bolt to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.) and secure the electrical connector again to the sensor.
