How to Remove and Install a Speed Sensor on 2001 Jeep Cherokee?

VSS is found on the speedometer pinion gear adapter, but its exact place depends on whether the vehicle is 4WD or 2WD, for 4WD, it's on the transfer case extension on the left side, but for 2WD, it's located on the extension housing of the transmission, still on the left side. First, raise and safely hold up your vehicle, unlock the secondary lock on the side of the connector, push the slide button to disconnect the wire and then pull away the connector from the sensor. Then, remove the sensor mounting bolt and pull out the speed sensor from the gear pinion straight enough to release it from the adapter. When installing, carefully wipe the inside of the adapter before fitting the sensor in and using the specified torque to tighten the bolt when everything is flush and the sensor is set. After that, attach the power cable to the sensor again.
