2000 Jeep Wrangler Air Bag Control Module Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Diagnose or Service an Air Bag Control Module on 2000 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before you begin any work on an air bag system, always disconnect and wait a few minutes while all the parts are isolated. Do not hit or kick the air bag Control Module. Damage to the impact sensor or problems in calibration may occur and if the module is dropped, it will need to be swapped out. Before removing the module, take off the negative battery terminal and ease back the carpet located below the heater-A/C duct in the tunnel area. When the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) is in your vehicle, take out the acceleration switch and its mounting bracket from the transmission tunnel floor panel. They need to be changed together, because all replacement modules have a new mounting bracket attached. Following this, take out the screws holding the ACM mounting bracket to the floor and pull the ACM and bracket far enough for you to access the wire harness connector. Pull out each white lock about halfway from its side, squeeze the latch and gently pull the wire harness away from the ACM. Take out the ACM and bracket together. Then, reconnect the cross-body wire harness connector to the ACM and check that all the latches are clicked and the white locks are fully inside. Place the ACM and attached mounting bracket unit on the floor panel's transmission tunnel, where the arrow on the ACM label points forward. Secure the ACM bracket on the floor panel transmission tunnel by tightening the four screws to 10.7 Nm. If you have ABS, place the acceleration switch and bracket onto the floor panel transmission tunnel. Offset the battery negative cable for now.
