2000 Jeep Wrangler Camshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Reinstall a Camshaft Position Sensor Without Removing the Distributor on 2000 Jeep Wrangler?
A: It is possible to remove the camshaft position sensor without first taking out the distributor. The first thing to do is remove the negative battery cable from the battery. After that, loosen and remove the distributor cap by unscrewing its two screws. Cut the camshaft position connector from the main wiring harness. After that, remove the distributor rotor from where it is attached to the distributor shaft. Take out the camshaft position sensor assembly from its position in the distributor housing. For installation, place the camshaft position sensor into the distributor so that it fits into the notch on the housing. Connect the wiring again, replace the rotor and fasten it and then screw the distributor cap onto the engine so it is secure.
