2001 Jeep Wrangler Camshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install a Camshaft Position Sensor in the Distributor on 2001 Jeep Wrangler?
A: The distributor houses the camshaft position sensor and you don't need to remove the distributor to take out the sensor. Connect with the negative battery cable before you proceed. Unscrew the two screws that connect the distributor cap to the engine after that. First, cut the camshaft position sensor wiring from its main connection at the engine. Then, remove the distributor rotor from the distributor shaft. Pull the camshaft position sensor assembly out of the distributor housing. After installing the camshaft position sensor, line it up with the notch in the distributor housing. Replace the harness, fix the rotor in its place and tighten the distributor cap screws.
