2000 Jeep Wrangler Wiper Motor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Wiper Motor on 2000 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before you open up the wiper motor, begin with unplugging the battery negative cable. For the front wiper motor, disconnect the wiper arms from the wiper pivots, then remove the clip that holds the center of the cowl plenum cover/grille panel to the cowl plenum panel. Finally, remove the four screws that join the cowl plenum cover/grille panel to the cowl panel by the windshield base. Raise and hold the hood open, then take out both of the screws that secure the cowl to hood seal away from the metal surface of the plenum cover. Disconnect the wiper motor wire harness connector from the cowl plenum, then remove the three screws that hold the wiper module to the panel and pull out the whole unit. Loosen the lock on the wiper motor wire harness connector, turn the wiper module over, disconnect the wiper linkage crank arm nut from the output shaft and undo the three screws securing the motor to the wiper module mounting bracket. Follow the removal instructions in reverse and tighten the following screws: wiper motor to 6 Nm (53 in. lbs.), crank arm nut to 11.5 Nm (101 in. lbs.), wiper module bracket screws to 7.9 Nm (70 in. lbs.) and cowl plenum cover/grille panel screws to 1.7 Nm (15 in. lbs.). To remove the rear wiper motor, lower the negative cable on the battery and disconnect it and then free the rear wiper arm from the motor output shaft from outside the raised window. After that, unscrew the nut and bezel covering the rear wiper motor's output shaft, as well as the attached rubber gasket. Use the glass of the lift to access the three screws on the wiper's rear cover and unplug the rear wiper motor connector while it is inside. Release the right lift glass hinge nut very gently, pulling the wiper motor rearward until the rear wiper shaft fits through the hole and move the motor slightly to the right until the slotted part fits over the hinge grommet, then remove it from the car. During installation, follow the steps you did for removal in reverse, tightening the wiper motor output shaft nut to 3.3 Nm (30 in. lbs.), lifting the glass hinge nut to 6 Nm (53 in. lbs.) and screwing the wiper motor cover to 1.1 Nm (10 in. lbs.).
