2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser Brake Disc Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair Brake Discs on 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Service or repair the brake discs by lifting the vehicle, taking off the front wheel assembly and removing the wheel. With the brake applied, use the caliper to push the pads farther toward the wheel and then take out the two bolts holding the adapter onto the steering knuckle. Disconnect the brake caliper and adapter as one unit, placing them somewhere you won't stretch the brake hose. Afterward, take the clips out that hold the brake disc to the wheel studs. Then, take out the brake disc. Raise the vehicle and take off the rear tire and wheel to remove the rear brake disc. Take the rear disc brake shoes and caliper off of the brake disc and put them somewhere safe. Take out any clips on the disc and simply lift the disc from its mounting studs. After looking at the disc brake shoes, position the disc over the studs where the hub meets the wheels. Install the disc brake caliper and its adapter over the disc, tighten the bolts to 104 Nm (77 ft. lbs.). Put the tire and wheel back on and make sure you tighten the wheel nuts to at least 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.), lower the car, depress the brake pedal a few times, then do a short drive before taking the car out properly. Put the rear brake disc on the wheel mounting studs, slide the caliper and shoes into place and assemble the tire and wheel back on the hub with the same tightness. If needed, fix the shoes in the parking brake, lower the vehicle and press the brake pedal to place the shoes onto the disc.
