2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Ignition Lock Cylinder Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install an Ignition Lock Cylinder on 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: By being inserted at the rear of the housing opposite the ignition switch, the ignition lock cylinder connects to the five different places the key can move. Accessory, Off (lock), Unlock, On/Run and Start. You should start by separating the negative cable from the battery before doing anything else. Set the key cylinder to RUN, push in the retaining tab seen through the hole on the shroud and lift out the ignition lock cylinder. For installation, insert the key into the lock, turn it to the run position and make sure the retaining tab is completely depressed. The socket in the lock body needs to match up with the male shaft inside the cylinder, so set the socket to Run mode. Line the ignition lock cylinder with the housing's grooves, then slide it in until the tab appears through the opening in the housing. Move the key to the OFF position and take it away and then attach the negative clamp to the battery.
