2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Water Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Water Pump on 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before serving or repairing the water pump, siphon the coolant from the system, take out the timing belt and both the camshaft sprockets and remove the rear timing belt cover. After that, unscrew the pump to remove it from under the engine hood. After putting the new O-ring in place, apply the grease and press it down enough into the groove to keep coolant from seeping out. Screw the pump body into the block and tighten the screws to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.). Once the pump is assembled, try turning it with your hand to check if it is free to move. Fill the cooling system and bring its pressure up to 103 kPa (15 psi) using a pressure tester and make sure the water pump shaft seal and O-ring are not leaking. After that, fit the rear timing belt cover and camshaft sprockets and finally install the timing belt.
