2001 Chrysler Sebring Timing Cover Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Timing Cover on 2001 Chrysler Sebring?
A: Service and repair of the timing cover involve first removing the upper timing belt cover screws and lifting off the cover. Before performing any work, remove the negative battery cable and lift the car on a hoist. After that, take off the right front wheel, then remove the shield near the right front end, the two accessory drive belts, the crankshaft damper and the AC/Generator belt tensioner. After lowering the vehicle, remove the generators connectors and uninstall the entire part. Take the vehicle's nose up again so you can remove the bolts or screws holding the lower timing cover and after that, take off the cover. Information: After that, remove the timing belt covers at both front ends, the timing belt and the timing belt idler pulley. Unhook both camshaft sprockets and then remove the center screws after you have Special Tool 6847 to help. Afterwards, undo the fasteners that hold the rear timing belt cover and take the cover off the engine. The first step for installation should be the upper timing belt cover, fastening the bolts to 4.5 Nm (40 in. lbs). Fit the lower timing belt cover and tighten all its fasteners to the recommended value. Take the car to the ground and join the generator to the bracket, linking the generator connectors. Raise the vehicle for a second time to put on the belt tensioner, crankshaft damper and accessory belts. After installing the belt splash shield and right front wheel, only then lower the vehicle and reconnect the negative battery cable. After that, install the cover and fasteners for the rear timing belt, tightening them according to instructions, next fit the camshaft sprockets and keep them in place with SP Tool 6847 when installing the center bolts, where tightening to 101 Nm (75 ft. lbs). Set up the idler pulley, the timing belt and both covers for the upper and lower front timing belts.
