2001 Dodge Dakota Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Shock Absorber on 2001 Dodge Dakota?
A: To perform front shock absorbent service, first carefully take off the upper shock nut, the retainer and the grommet from the shock stud. Always begin by supporting the vehicle, then loosen and remove the bolts from the bottom suspension mount and remover the shock absorber. When installing, instead of the upper shock nut, use either Mopar Lock 'N Seal or Loctite 242 on the existing nut. Begin by fitting the lower retainer which has an L stamped on it and the grommet on the shock absorber stud, after which you extend the shock and push it up through the lower suspension arm and upper mounting hole. Put the lower mounting bolts in place and tighten them till they reach 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) After you have supported the vehicle, lower it and mount the upper grommet and retainer (stamped with a U) on the shock absorber stud below it. Then, insert a new nut or coating with Mopar Lock 'N Seal or Loctite 242 on the old nut and turn it to 26 Nm (19 ft. lbs.).
