2001 Dodge Durango Ignition Coil Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install an Ignition Coil on an Engine Cylinder Head on 2001 Dodge Durango?
A: The ignition coil, a positionally fixed epoxy filled type, is bolted to a bracket on the front of the right engine cylinder head above the automatic belt tensioner bracket. Disconnect the main lead from the ignition coil and then disconnect the spark plug cable, too. You should not take out the coil bracket-to-cylinder head bolts because they are under accessory drive belt tension; if you must remove them, all belt tension should be released first. When the ignition coil has been unplugged, remove it from the coil mounting bracket by loosening and removing two bolts. To install, join the ignition coil to its coil bracket. If nuts and bolts are involved, tighten them to 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.) torque. Otherwise, if the coil mounting bracket was tapped for mounting, tighten them to 5 Nm (50 in. lbs.) torque. Fully these all the connectors back to the ignition coil.
