2000 Dodge Durango Ignition Coil Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Remove and Install an Epoxy-Filled Ignition Coil on 2000 Dodge Durango?
A: Ignition coils are epoxy-filled parts, so you should use the same kind when you replace one. At the start, remove the primary power and secondary spark plug cable from the ignition coil. You should not remove the coil mounting bracket-to-cylinder head mounting bolts because they are under accessory drive belt tension; you should let all the belt tension go before you do so. After that, take out the two bolts to remove the ignition coil from its bracket. Fix the ignition coil to the coil bracket, tightening it 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.) with nuts or 5 Nm (50 in. lbs.) with coil mounting bolts. Finally, connect all wiring again to the ignition coil.
