2001 Dodge Durango Wiper Motor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Wiper Motor for Optimal Performance on 2001 Dodge Durango?
A: The first step to servicing the rear wiper motor is to cut off power from the battery by removing the negative cable. Take out the rear wiper arm from the rear wiper motor's shaft. Peel at the edge of the nut cover using a door trim panel removal tool where it's connected to the motor bezel and outer liftgate panel, making sure to protect the paint of the panel while you remove it. Outside the liftgate, take out the nut connecting the rear wiper motor's output shaft to the outer panel and afterwards remove the bezel and grommet from the shaft. After that, get rid of the trim panel inside the liftgate and separate the wire harness for the rear wiper at the receiving connector on the motor pigtail. Open the screws that hold the rear wiper motor in place on the inside panel. Then take out the motor and the bracket jointly. Install the rear wiper motor and mounting bracket together in the liftgate and screw in the two mounting bracket screws only enough to hold them in place for now. Place the bezel and grommet on the outside over the motor's output shaft, put the shaft through the liftgate's outer panel hole and screw it down with the nut. You should tighten the nut to 5 Nm (43 in. lbs.). With the panel removed, secure the two bracket screws to the inner panel with 8 Nm (72 in. lbs.) of torque on each and then attach the liftgate wire harness connector for the rear wiper motor to the motor pigtail wire connector. Put the trim panel back in the liftgate, attach the nut cover to the rear wiper motor output bezel on the rear, place the rear wiper arm on its output shaft and secure the battery negative cable.
