2001 Dodge Neon Oxygen Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install a Downstream Heated Oxygen Sensor on 2001 Dodge Neon?
A: The heated oxygen sensor in the downstream exhaust pipe must be treated differently for both removal and re-installation. Before removing the sensor, first jack up the vehicle, unplug the electrical connector from the harness and remove the sensor's harness from the clips. An appropriate tool for removing the sensor is Snap-On tool YA8875 or any similar oxygen sensor crow foot wrench. Removed, clean the exhaust manifold with a 18 mm X 1.5 + 6E tap. When reusing the first sensor, coat the threads with an anti-seize compound such as Loctite 771-64, before installation. When installing the sensor, ensure it features a compound coating and use the same crow foot oxygen sensor wrench as before to tighten it to 28 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) Next, join the sensor electrical harness to the clips on the body and connect the electrical connector to it. Only then lower the vehicle to the ground.
