2001 Dodge Neon Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Use a Shock Absorber Spring Compressor to Assemble the Front Strut on 2001 Dodge Neon?
A: Place the strut spring compressor, PSE W-7200 or an equivalent tool around the coil spring, as the manufacturer advises and press it to allow you to install the front strut assembly. Should you have already removed the coil spring, you can proceed; or else, drop the coil spring into the spring compressor, making sure the end of the top coil touches the back as you compress it into position. Attach the lower spring isolator to the lower spring seat of the strut and as you rotate the strut, direct the clevis bracket past the compressor so it is outwards at the bottom of the vehicle. Secure one end of the strut to the spring with a clamp on the lower part of the coil spring. After that, slide the shorter jounce bumper on the shaft below the strut, then fit the dust shield over the top; make sure the dust shield presses past the top retaining pin on the strut housing. If you have taken the Hino apart before, install the upper spring isolator on the upper spring seat and bearing, then position the upper spring seat and bearing on the coil spring with the notch of the upper seat facing outward of the compressor. Slide the stronger onto the upper spring seat and bearing and softly place the holding nut on the strut rod before tightening them. Use Strut Nut Socket, Special Tool 6864, to tighten the retaining nut to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.), as you hold the strut shaft firmly in place. Remove tension from the spring by backing the compressor drive all the way off, ensuring the mount, seat and bearing fit without touching each other. Put the clamp on the lower part of the coil spring and strut away, pull back the spring compressor hooks and then remove the strut assembly from the spring compressor. Install it on the car after removing it.
