2001 Jeep Wrangler Coil Springs Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair Coil Springs on the Front Suspension on 2001 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Support the car by lifting it and use the jack, then take out the wheel and tire assemblies before starting. Place a hydraulic jack under the axle and get rid of the front shocks from their lower mounts. Should there be an ABS wire, separate the mounting brackets from the base of the axle and loosen the lower suspension nut and bolts. Take off the track bar from its bracket and unplug the right side of the drag link from the right side knuckle. Pull the axle down and rotate the spring if you need to, as lifting it a bit from below will help remove the spring from the Y-stop bracket. Take away the coil spring retainer clip and the spring and remove the upper spring isolator and jounce bumper if you need to. Installing the jounce bumper requires you to place it in its mount first and add the spring isolator. Similarly, you should rotate the spring and tap down somewhat on the axle when placing it. Put the coil spring on the axle pad and twist it while attaching it as needed. Hold the spring onto the piston with the retainer clip and secure it with the bolt, turning until the bolt reaches 21 Nm (16 ft. lbs.). Lift the axle to its proper spot, with the spring set into its upper mount and fix the shock and wire ABS mounts at the axle if they're present. Put the track bar back on the axle bracket and install both the lower suspension arms to the frame, leaving the mounting bolts and nuts slightly loose. Put the drag chain to the right knuckle, take out the jack from under the axle and place the wheels and tires back on their places. In the end, get rid of the supports, settle the vehicle back down and secure the lower suspension arm nuts at 85 ft. lbs., again at normal ride height with the weight of the vehicle.
