2001 Jeep Wrangler Neutral Safety Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Neutral Safety Switch in a 32RH Automatic Transmission on 2001 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before you begin repairing the Neutral Safety Switch for the 32Rh Automatic Transmission, lift the vehicle and put a drain pan beneath the switch. Release the wiring from the switch and remove the device from the control unit. Before installing, place the shift lever in both Park and Neutral and make sure the switch operating lever fingers are centered in the hole on the case. Fit a new seal to the switch and correctly place it in the case, fixing it with 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.) of tightening basic force. Test the new switch with a 12V test lamp, put the switch wires back in place and remove the jack. Once done, top off the transmission fluid so it's midway up the "hot" mark.
