2001 Jeep Wrangler Seat Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Service and Repair a Rear Seat Belt on 2001 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Always look at the seat belts, buckles, mounting parts and retractors after the service to see if they are correctly in place, functioning as they should or damaged. Any belt that is cut, frayed or torn should be replaced, any twisted belt should be straightened out, loose fasteners should be tightened, any belt with a damaged buckle or retractor should be replaced and any belt with a bent or broken latch or anchor plate should also be replaced. Always put in new, still-unopened parts when a seat belt component is damaged instead of trying to repair it yourself. First, put the rear seat buckle units between the seat cushion and seat back into the cargo area, lift the rear seat back release lever to tilt the rear seat back forward and then roll the folded rear seat and back assembly forward to the two front seats. Take off the screw that holds the lower anchor plate of the rear seat shoulder belt to the inner rear wheel house panel and uninstall the lower anchor plate. Slide up and open the rear shoulder belt loop cover, find the screw that holds the turning loop anchor plate to the sport bar and take out both the screw and the anchor plate. After that, remove the screw keeping the retractor attached to the sport bar on top of the inner rear wheel house panel and unplug the rear seat shoulder belt from the sport bar. While installing, put the rear seat shoulder belt and retractor in the place just above the inner rear wheel house panel and at the sport bar, so the tab on the retractor enters the hole in the sport bar. Fix and tighten the bolt that secures the retractor to the sport bar to 43 Nm (32 ft. lbs.) and fix the rear shoulder belt turning loop anchor plate to the sport bar and tighten its mounting screw to the same level. Put the shoulder belt turning loop cover back in place by folding and snapping, place the rear seat shoulder belt lower anchor plate to the inner rear wheel house panel and secure it by tightening the screw to 43 Nm (32 ft. lbs.). Move the rear seat back and cushion rearward over the rear floor panel, arrange each rear belt buckle to sit between the cushion and the backrest and unfold the rear seat back in place until it is locked down.
