- Q: How Should You Properly Service and Repair a Front Seat Belt and Retractor on Jeep Wrangler?A:When your seat belt has been serviced or after installation, really inspect each seat belt, buckle, mounting part and retractor to check their condition and performance. Discard a belt that has cuts or visible fraying, straighten any belt that is bent and tighten fasteners that are loose. Change any belt if its buckle or retractor is damaged, as well as any belt with a bent or broken latch or anchor plate. Never deal with fixing a seat belt component; simply use the part numbers in the Mopar Parts Catalog to buy new and unused components. Move the front seats as far as they can go forward for easy access to the front shoulder belt lower anchor screw, the belt retractor and the sport bar. Release the seat belt fastener, then lift the front shoulder belt turning loop cover to get to the screw anchoring the turning loop to the height adjuster located at the top of the sport bar. Unscrew, then remove, the turning loop, support washer and screw from the height adjuster. Following that, detach the socket head screw holding the retractor and lower anchor seat belt piece to the bottom end of the sport bar and pull out the front seat shoulder belt and retractor. For the seat belts, put the front belt shoulder and retractor piece near the base of the sport bar, so their locator tabs are in the holes. Tighten the screw that holds the retractor and lower seat belt anchor plate to the sport bar to 43 Nm (32 ft. lbs.) and then put the support/guide washer and shoulder belt turning loop onto the height adjuster at the sport bar's top. After tightening the shoulder belt turning loop screw to 43 Nm (32 ft lbs), textstyle fold and snap the cover for the turning loop back in place over the screw.
- Q: How to Maintain the Seat Belt and Retractor in a Two-Door Car on Jeep Wrangler?A:The front seat belt and retractor in a two-door require you to first disconnect the negative Battery Cable and let the capacitor in the restraint circuit discharge for a few minutes. Check every seat belt, buckle, mounting hardware, retractor, tether strap and anchor for correct installation and damage, replacing those that appear cut, frayed or torn and tightening all fasteners. To use the lower seat belt anchor, attach the seat belt and retractor to the B-pillar inside of the car so the hole in the B-pillar and the tab of the upper retractor bracket match up. Tighten the screw between the lower retractor bracket and seat belt lower anchor to the base of the inner B-pillar to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.), attach the yellow body wire harness connector to the seat belt tensioner initiator, route the seat belt webbing through the slot in the lower B-pillar trim and then put on the trim. Attach the top of the seat belt loop to the height adjustment on the upper sport bar, tighten that part with a 40 Nm screw to secure it and install a new trim cover over the turning loop. When securing the lower anchor for travel, do the same and fix it over the outboard side of the front seat's cushion frame, while tightening the fixing screw to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). Do not put the positive battery cable back on until after finishing the test for the supplemental restraint system, following any service on these parts.
