2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the Passenger Air Bag on 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Open the car hood, then take out the battery's negative cable and give it two minutes to discharge before proceeding. Open the panel above the instrument panel, then push the glove box in at the sides until it lays flat on the floor. Take off the right instrument panel end cap, then get rid of four screws along the lower edge and two more near the top of the air bag cover. After that, remove the two nuts that hold the passenger air bag to the instrument panel by opening the glove box. Pull the air bag up, make sure the wire connection is visible, unlock the red tab, put some pressure on the lock and the air bag will pop out. For an air bag that's deployed, first roll or fold it towards the instrument panel, shut the door on it and secure it in place with tape. The air bag is installed with placement in the instrument panel cavity, the hookup of the 4-way wire harness and closing the red locking tab. Then, tighten two nuts fastening the air bag to the panel, followed by two screws on top and four screws under the air bag cover, each to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.) Place the right instrument panel end cap, close the glove box and set the instrument panel top cover in place. For now, wait to attach the negative cable, close the hood and verify that everything is working.
