2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser Air Bag Control Module Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service an Air Bag Control Module for Side Impact on 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: At the start of service, open the hood and unhook the negative terminal on the battery so that the capacitor has two minutes to discharge. Removing the trim underneath the lower seat shows the air bag plug in the same area. Firmly disconnect the plug's main connector to turn off the side impact air bag and activate the shorting clips. Afterward, take out the B-pillar trim for the required side and then remove the seat belt retractor. You should not remove the Siacm from the mounting bracket, as the bracket is serviced together with the Siacm and a new one will come with the replacement part. Disconnect the Siacm electrical connector and slip the Siacm containing nut and eyelet out before pulling the Siacm from the B-pillar. During installation, connect the Siacm electrical connector with the ground eyelet resting on the top rear weld stud so it does not spin while being tightened. Set the Siacm between the B-pillar trim and second panel, remove the ground eyelet and add the retaining nuts, tightening them to 20 Nm (175 ± 25 in. lbs.). Attach the retractor, harness-side connector and lower B-pillar trim and only then fasten the lower seat trim. For now, avoid connecting the negative battery terminal, shut the hood and observe how the vehicle works.
