2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser Oxygen Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain an Oxygen Sensor on 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Clean your way around the oxygen sensors by removing the cover to the air cleaner and the makeup hose and then separating the negative battery cable. Disable the power source first and then remove the sensor from the upstream location using tool C-4907. For the downstream sensor, lift and prop up the car, cut off its electrical plug and disconnect the sensor electrical harness out of the clips on the body surface. After that, remove the sensor with an oxygen sensor tackle such as Snap-On tool YA8875 or another similar one. Following removal, run an 18 mm X 1.5 + 6E tap along the exhaust manifold threads to clean them. If you're using the old sensor, do not forget to smear the anti-seize compound Loctite(R) 771-64 onto their threads; new sensors are already coated. Set a torque of 28 N.m (20 ft. lbs.) on both sensors. Attach the electrical connectors, secure the harness going to the downstream sensor, drop the vehicle, link the negative battery cable, put the air cleaner lid back and set the makeup air hose in place.
