2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Power Steering Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Hose for Supply Hose on 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: The first thing to do when servicing the power steering hose is to remove as much fluid as possible from the reservoir. First, remove the front grille and then get rid of the weather-strip from the radiator panel, as well as the ambient temperature sensor by the same panel. After that, open the panel and take out the holders that secure it. Lift the clamp from the supply hose on the power steering pump and pull the supply hose off the fitting. Additionally, release the hose clamp that attaches the supply hose to the power steering fluid reservoir, pull the end of the hose over the reservoir fitting and remove the whole supply hose from the vehicle. Slide these clamps all the way over each end of the new hose so they won't touch the reservoir and pump after installation. Route the pump's end of the hose to the pump supply fitting and attach the reservoir end to the molded fitting on the power steering reservoir. Let the hose clamp at the fluid reservoir stretch past the raised part in the fitting, then secure it in place and repeat with the hose clamp from the supply fitting for the pump. Be sure to route the hose above the engine timing chain cover and away from anything that could scratch it. After that, replace the radiator closure panel and have it fasten; then, install the ambient temperature sensor and finish with the hood-opening weather-strip. Then, put back the grille, follow the Power Steering Pump Initial Operation routine to properly fill the system, bleed the lines and check each hose connection for leaks.
