Power steering fluid hoses around the 2.4L engine must not be installed close to the exhaust system, driveshafts or any possible sources of damage. Carefully wash the open end of the hose and the spot where the pump connects with a dry towel, while squeezing out and replacing used O-rings with new ones that you should lubricate before installing. Insert the
Power Steering Pump away from the firewall, through the right side of the A/C compressor and then secure the pressure hose into the pump at the engine's bottom. Run a nipple bolt through the routing bracket and tighten the pressure hose to the engine, then fasten the pressure hose tube nut onto the pump with your hand. Lay the extender flat and use a crowfoot wrench from the extension on a torque wrench to put 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.) of force on the pressure hose tube nut at the power steering pump. Put in the four bolts holding the A/C compressor to the engine, turning them just under 29 Nm (250 in. lbs.) and fasten the wiring connectors to the compressor. Place the drive-belt splash shield, secure it to the body with fasteners and also secure it to the front crossmember of the suspension. If you have taken off the fasteners before, set them back into the front fascia on the lower reinforcement and into the wheel house splash shield on the
Drive Belt splash shield. Put the wheel and tire in place and make sure the wheel mounting nuts are tightened to 135 Nm or 100 ft. lbs. Tighten the loose bolt on the appliance side to 8 Nm (70 in. lbs.), keeping the pressure hose and routing bracket in place and connect them to the collar, making sure to tighten the mounting bolts to 45 ft. lbs. Wash both ends, tube and box, of the open power steering hose and the gear port, changing any soiled O-rings and adding power steering fluid to lubricate them. Drive the pressure hose from the front suspension crossmember to the driveshaft side, ensuring there are 4-10mm between both components after the hose is secured to the steering gear with the tube nut. To attach the hose on a LHD vehicle, place it on the side of the power steering gear and tighten the nut at 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.). Attach the power steering fluid pressure hose to its port on the power steering gear and tighten the pressure hose tube nut according to specification. The next step is to lower the vehicle again, fill and bleed the power steering and search for leaks on all hose connections.
