2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser Throttle Position Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Throttle Position Sensor on 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: In order to service and repair the throttle position sensor, open the air cleaner lid and makeup air hose, release the clamp and transfer the assembly. Release the negative battery cable and the electrical connector that goes to the throttle position sensor. Take out the screws holding the throttle position sensor and remove the sensor. Place the throttle shaft of the throttle body into the socket of the TPS so the shaft is resting against the two fittings inside. Turn the TPS clockwise slightly, ensuring the mounting screw holes match the throttle body and use gentle pressure if it helps. If it's hard to rotate the sensor, move the throttle shaft down toward the opposite set of guide tabs. Use a torque wrench and tighten the screws to 6.2 N.m (55 in. lbs.). Keep the throttle plate closed; if it hangs open, replace the sensor on the other end of the tabs. Hook the electrical connectors back to the throttle position sensor, reattach the negative battery cable and lastly, add the air cleaner lid and makeup air hose, tightening the clamp securely.
