2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser Camshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Camshaft Position Sensor on 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: The camshaft position sensor is serviced and repaired by opening the air cleaner lid, disconnecting the inlet air temperature sensor and unplugging the makeup air hose. After that, remove the negative battery cable and the camshaft position sensor electrical connector. Remove the screws that attach the sensor and then take it out. Relax the screw that attaches the target magnet to the rear of the camshaft, then push the target magnet into the end of the camshaft, so the locating dowels slide into their holes. Apply about 3.6 Nm (32 ± 5 in. lbs.) tightening and ensure you don't over-torque or the magnet could break and will need to be replaced. After that, put in the camshaft position sensor and tighten the screws holding it to 13 Nm (115 ± 15 in. lbs.) torque. Ensure you install the electrical connector to the sensor at a slight angle to preserve the condition of its pins. At last, put the negative battery cable back, install the air cleaner lid and connect the inlet air temperature sensor with the makeup air hose.
