2002 Dodge Dakota Antenna Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace an Antenna Cable and Its Body on 2002 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before working on the antenna, go to the rear end of the car and unscrew and isolate the negative terminal on the battery. Pull the trim cover off of the right-side cowl inner panel to locate the antenna cable connector just outboard of the glove box under the instrument panel, disconnect the cable by pulling apart and turning the metal connectors. Push the retainers inward so you can release the antenna coaxial cable at the cowl side inner panel and in the right front fender. Take off the antenna mast screws, use the Special Tool C-4816 to unscrew the antenna cap and then detach the antenna adapter from the top of the fender. Guide the antenna body down into the mounting hole in the fender and then reach out the opening between the right outer cowl panel and fender, pulling the antenna and its cable into the car through the front door opening. Take the antenna coaxial cable grommet out of the hole in the right cowl side outer panel and pull the entire coaxial cable and antenna out through that hole from the passenger part of the vehicle. To install, place the antenna body and attached cable between the right cowl side outer panel and the fender side of the front through the opening on the passenger side and push the antenna coaxial cable behind the fender so that it goes through the opening in the right cowl side outer panel and is secured by a grommet. Slide the antenna body upward into the mount hole at the top of the fender, cover the antenna body from the top side of the fender with the adapter, put on the antenna cap and tighten the nut on the antenna to 8 Nm (70 in. lbs.) using the special tool C-4816. Secure the antenna mast to the antenna body at 3.3 Nm (30 in. lbs.), clip the antenna coaxial cable retainers to the right cowl and inside the front fender and lock the cable in the retainers under the instrument panel and in the glove box. Feed the antenna coaxial cable connector into the socket under the instrument panel, put the trim cover over the right-side inner panel on the cowl and finally attach the battery negative cable.
