2002 Dodge Dakota Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Fuel Rail on 2002 Dodge Dakota?
A: To work on the fuel rail assembly, begin by allowing all pressure in the fuel system to escape. Disconnect the negative battery cable and take off the air cleaner before starting the job. Use the fuel pressure release procedure, then take the throttle body out of the intake manifold. Should there be Air Conditioning equipment, take out the round-shaped A/C compressor-to-intake manifold support bracket using three bolts. Push the red slider back from the injector, depress the tab and remove the connector from all 8 fuel injectors. Each injector position in the factory fuel injection wiring harness has a unique tag. On the 3.9L (V-6) engine, you just need to disconnect the electrical connection from the intake manifold air temperature sensor. Bring the fuel tube connector at the side of the fuel rail loose and unscrew the hold-down bolts. Wipe the injectors on the intake manifold free of dirt, then shake and pull the fuel rails left and right until all the injectors have been cleared. Take off the fuel rail inside the engine and then remove any clips that are keeping the injectors in place on the rail. Rub a bit of clean engine oil over each O-ring of the fuel injectors before installing them and the clips onto the fuel rail. Insert the fuel rail into the injector openings on the intake manifold, making sure the injectors are slowly dropped without tearing the O-ring. Lower the fuel rails all the way until the injectors are in and screw in the mounting bolts afterward. Afterwards, hook the electrical connector to the intake manifold air temperature sensor and firmly attach all the connectors at the fuel injectors. If your car has an A/C support bracket, install it first and then install the throttle body on the intake manifold. Correctly place the fuel tube at the side of the fuel rail, install the air cleaner and fasten the battery cable. Switch on the engine and look for drips or leaks.
