- Q: How to Remove and Install a Vapor Canister on 2002 Dodge Dakota?A: The EVAP canister must be handled with the vehicle upside down by first opening the left frame rail and reaching beneath it for removal and installation. First, lift the car, detach the vacuum lines from the canister and remember where they come from for later use. After that, take out the mounting nut securing the canister in the bracket and remove the canister. When mounting, aim the locating pins of the canister into the holes on the mounting bracket, press the canister onto the bracket and hand-tighten the nut until it reaches 17-24 Nm (150-210 in. lbs.). Then, connect all the vacuum lines at the canister and lift the car off the jack.
