2002 Dodge Dakota Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Exhaust Manifold on 2002 Dodge Dakota?
A: First, detach the negative battery cable and then lift the vehicle to support it for the procedure to access the manifold. Pull apart the connection to the exhaust manifold, put the car up on jacks and take out the exhaust heat shields. Following this, unscrew the manifold using the bolts and the nuts, removing washers along the way and lift the manifold away from the cylinder head. Use solvent to clean the mating areas on the cylinder head and manifold and then blast them with compressed air. Check the manifold for any cracks and level the mating surfaces with a straight edge to make sure they are no more than 0.2 mm uneven over every 300 mm (0.008 inch over every foot). Should any studs come out with the nuts when you detach them, add sealer to the coarse thread part of the studs to seal off water. Set the engine exhaust manifolds on the two outlined studs of the cylinder head and then secure them with conical washers and nuts. Put two conical washers and bolts at the ends of the manifold outboard arms and two unshaped washers and bolts on the center one. Twist the bolts and nuts from the center arm towards the edges, each to a torque of 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.). Put in the exhaust heat shields, drive the vehicle up into the air again and join the exhaust pipe with the manifold, using bolts, nuts and retainers and tightening everything to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.). After that, descer the jack and securely reattach the negative terminal to the battery.
